Weisner, Gennocro medal at PIAA cross country meet

HERSHEY – The Elk County Catholic High School and St. Marys Area High School cross country teams each had a runner medal in the AA Girls' 5K race at the PIAA Finals in Hershey on Saturday. ECC's Kennedy Weisner finished second in a time of 18:52, while SMA's Adair Gennocro was third in 18:58. Angel Piccirillo, a senior at Home-Center, finished first in 18:31.
The Lady Crusaders finished 11th overall in team points with 314. St. Basil Academy took the team title with 72 points, followed by Elk Lake with 75, Quaker Valley 121, Holy Redeemer 163, Mercyhurst Prep 199, Villa Maria 209, Wyomissing Area 228, Central Cambria 252, Oley Valley 263, West Middlesex 289, Elk Catholic 314, Penn Cambria 326, Notre Dame Gp 339, Lewisburg Area 346, Freeport Area 410, South Fayette 416, South Park 437, Paul Robeson 492, Northern Potter 503, Forest Hills 506, Northeast Bradford 515, Bethlehem Catholic 553, Masterman 609, and Bedford 620.
Also for the Lady Crusaders, Maggie Sorg finished 64th in 21:01, Cassie Thompson finished 128th in 21:50, Hannah Pontzer finished 225th in 23:10, Alison Prokop finished 238th in 23:30, Victoria Dippold finished 260th in 24:16, and Nicole Florio finished 262th in 24:20.
In the AA Boys' 5K race, the Elk County Catholic squad finished 17th overall out of 23 teams. Quaker Valley took the team title with 90 points. North East was second with 181 points, followed by Holy Redeemer 190, Masterman 204, West Middlesex 204, Canton 209, Wellsboro Area 211, Beaver Area 217, Mercyhurst Prep 239, Lower Moreland 254, Oswayo Valley 295, Vincentian Academy 297, Blue Ridge 300, Annville-Cleona 317, Lancaster Mennonite 338, Notre Dame Gp 350, Elk County Catholic 367, Allentown C C 383, Freedom Area 406, Somerset Area 458, Richland 491, Paul Robeson 552, and Bishop McCort 605.
Finishing first overall was Northern Schuylkill's Brendan Shearn in a time of 16:15.
The Crusaders were led by Caleb Lecker, who finished 33rd in 17:18. Also for ECC, Drew Bille finished 151st in 18:22, Joe Hoffman finished 153rd in 18:24, Ryan Detsch finished 197th in 18:45, Peter Cooney was 250th in 19:34, Ryan Jacobs was 276th in 20:44, and Lucas Knight was 284th in 21:19.
Johnsonburg's Cody Schreiber finished 130th in 18:13.
In the AAA Boys' 5K race, the St. Marys Area team finished 23rd overall in team points with 622.
In first was North Penn with 132, followed by Cardinal O'Hara, also with 132. Third was North Allegheny with 144, followed by Mount Lebanon 153, Wc Henderson 195, Council Rock North 229, La Salle College 236, Great Valley 248, Kiski Area 265, Holy Ghost Prep 278, Cumberland 295, Dallas 325, Allderdice 333, Altoona Area 344, Governor Mifflin 351, Red Lion 353, Pittsburgh C C 369, Lower Dauphin 392, Grove City 401, Chambersburg 427, Parkland 541, Nazareth 589, St. Marys 622, and Shikellamy 733.
Finishing first overall was Hatboro Horsham's Conner Quinn in 16:03.
The Dutchmen were led by Gideon Woelfel, who finished 98th in 17:21. Also for St. Marys Area, Alec Foster finished 198th in 18:01, Dylan Shields finished 263rd in 18:51, Austin Frey finished 277th in 19:41, Konstantin Deyev finished 278th in 19:51, Nate McFadden finished 279th in 20:25, and Mitchell O'Vell finished 281st in 20:55.
