Wellness programs taking shape for new year

December 29, 2010

Among the typical New Year's resolutions made each year are those geared toward overall wellness, such as weight loss and maintaining a healthier lifestyle. Photo by Amy Cherry.

While Jan. 1 marks the beginning of a new year, it also marks the start of many New Year's resolutions, a majority of which pertain to weight loss, smoking cessation, decreasing debt or becoming more organized.
Elk Regional Health Center is offering several programs to assist area residents in keeping their resolutions. Among the Highmark Health Insurance-sponsored programs are the "Drop 10 in 10" weight-loss program, "Discover Relaxation" and "Personal Nutrition Counseling."
"We are happy to be able to offer these programs," noted Charlotte Floravit, ERHC public relations director. "We offer them several times a year."
Highmark insurance holders can participate in the programs for a minimal fee or free of charge.
