Wilcox meets French Creek Valley tonight
The Wilcox Legion squad remained undefeated in the Pa. American Legion Region 8 Tournament with a 14-6 victory over the Millcreek team.
Wilcox will now meet French Creek Valley tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Berwind Park.
Todayâ€™s first game will see Albion taking on Millcreek in an elimination game. Albion is the Erie County champ while Millcreek in the Erie County runner up.
In last nightâ€™s nightcap, which lasted almost 3 1/2 hours, both teams had 14 hits.
The leading hitters for Wilcox were Jesse Reynolds with a double and two singles, Joe Holmberg a double and a single, Josh Mitchell, Mitchell Holmberg and Quinn Luhr with two singles each. Cole Peterson and CJ Herbstritt each added a single.
Alexander Margraf had a double and two singles for Millcreek. Lucas Bailey and Matt Sardini each had two singles.
Cole Peterson started on the mound for Wilcox going six innings giving up eight hits, walking two and striking out seven. Josh Mitchell worked three innings giving up six hits, walking two and striking out four.
Ryan Kavenman worked 4 1/3 innings for Millcreek giving up seven hits, walking four and striking out two. Zach Borsa worked 3 2/3 innings giving up seven hits, walking seven and striking out four.
Wilcox jumped out to the 7-1 lead after five innings. Millcreek cut their lead to 7-5 in the seventh inning. Wilcox would add three insurance runs in the eighth inning as they went on to win 14-6
The Albion Legion baseball team eliminated the Meadville Legion from the Region 8 tournament on Monday afternoon by a 12-3 score.
The Albion squad outhit Meadville by an 11-4 margin. Aaron Morley and Nathan Noe each had a double and a single for Albion. Daniel Finn and Taylor Russell each added two singles. Corey Lynn had a double for Meadville.
After a scoreless first inning, Meadville took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. After Meadville failed to score in the top of the third inning, Albion scored three runs on a hit batter, a single, a walk and a double.
Meadville made the score 3-2 with a run in the fourth inning. Albion added two runs to their total in the fifth inning as they led 5-2.
Meadville made the score 5-3 with a run in the top of the sixth inning on a walk and a double. Albion failed to score in the home half of the sixth. Meadville left two men on base in the seventh. In the home half of the inning, Albion scored six runs to open a 11-3 lead. They would add a run in the home half of the eighth to win the game 12-3 as Meadville went down in order in the home half of the inning.
