William P. Gerg

William P. Gerg, 84, of 142 Taft Rd., St. Marys, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
He was born May 8, 1927, in St. Marys, son of the late Anthony and Flora Minard Gerg.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys schools. He was the owner/operator of an auto body shop in St. Marys and later worked as an insurance adjuster for Erie Insurance. He retired as a past owner of the Mosey Inn in St. Marys, where he shared his love of guitars, music and life itself. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a life member of the CMF and the St. Marys American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Hacherl; a daughter, Jennifer Greenawalt and her husband Edward of St. Marys; a son, Anthony M. Gerg and his wife Charlette of St. Marys; four grandchildren, Tony Gerg, Mike Gerg, Kristin Burke and Allison Nussbaum; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Casolo of Ridgway.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Arnold, Byron, Robert and Harry Gerg; and by three sisters, Irene Schaut, Edna Butterfuss and Mary Foringer.
A Mass of Christian Burial for William P. Gerg will be celebrated in the St. Mary's Church on Saturday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Meinrad Lawson, OSB, pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
