William T. Johnson, 79, of 824 Cardinal Road, St. Marys, died on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Elk Regional Health Center following a brief illness.
He was born March 17, 1932 in Allport, a son of the late Arthur and Edna Plowman Johnson.
On June 22, 1956 in Morrisdale, he married JoAnn Pierce Johnson, who survives.
He was a member of Morrisdale Methodist Church and attended First United Methodist Church in St. Marys. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Japan during the Korean War. He worked at Pure Carbon for 10 years and then at Kersey Tool & Die, where he later became a co-owner. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and woodworking and was well-known for his ability to ï¬x anything that was broken.
In addition to his wife of more than 54 years, he is survived by a son, Micah Johnson and his wife Caroline of Phoenix, AZ; a daughter, Tia, Mrs. Ken Meredith of Kersey; four grandchildren, Sydney and Peter Johnson of Phoenix, Nikki, Mrs. Chris Komenda of Ridgway, Travis Meredith and his wife Jamie of Norfolk; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mona Shimmel of Detroit, MI.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Arthur and James Johnson, and a sister, Margaret Holdren.
Funeral services for William T. Johnson will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 North Michael St., St. Marys, on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Chris Kindle, pastor of First United Methodist Church, ofï¬ciating. Burial will follow in the Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Ridgway.
A military service will be conducted by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Visitation will be at the Lynch- Green Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m..
