Willis G. Smith, 85, of 1678 Bucktail Rd., St. Marys, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 at the Pinecrest Manor after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 30, 1928, in St. Marys, son of the late Joseph E. and Dorothy M. Gleixner Smith.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. He was a retired supervisor at Sylvania for many years.
On Nov. 18, 1952, in the Sacred Heart Church, he married Grace A. Taylor, who preceded him in death on June 23, 2001.
Mr. Smith was a member of the Queen of the World Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in WWII. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and he enjoyed hunting, rides in the woods, and his dog Sam.
He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Rippy of St. Marys; two grandchildren, Daniel Rippy (Crystal) of St. Marys and Nichole Dorio (Pete) of Strongsville, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, Landyn Rippy and Emry Dorio; and by two sisters, Miriam Wehler of St. Marys and Elizabeth "Betty" Cheatle of St. Marys.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Rita Schutz, Doris Cheatle, and Kathleen Johnston; and by a brother, Howard J. Smith.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for Willis G. Smith to be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Allen, pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
