St. Marys artist Peter Winklbauer is showcasing his latest collection of 60 watercolor paintings during a one-man show as part of the Meet the Artist night on Friday, Feb. 4 at the Diamond View Restaurant and Lounge.
The showing will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the former St. Marys Country Club. The event is free and open to the public.
"I believe this is a culmination of my best work." Winklbauer said. "Painting is my life. It's not about selling works, but about creating them."
Among the featured pieces are a 4 x 4 x 40 series of works, which includes 40 paintings measuring 4 x 4 and ten 10 x 10 landscape paintings, as well a few additional works.
"These paintings focus on color and design," Winklbauer explained. "The 4 x 4 pieces are abstract, while the landscapes are conservative in subject matter."
He added that the landscape subject matter consists of images he created, rather than based on actual places.
Among the additional artwork are portraits featuring such individuals as Elk County Catholic Track and Field Champion Megan Dornisch, showcasing her with her gold medal in shot put; Drew Billie, a Cavaliers basketball player; and Brandon Reed, a young resident of St. Marys.
According to Winklbauer, he also plans to show a piece featuring a landscape of a small Austrian town.Â
"That town is a special place because my father was born near that town," Winklbauer said, referring to the subject of the painting.
The painting is not for sale, as it was auctioned off as a feature prize during the Sacred Heart Parish Oktoberfest.Â
A wine reception, featuring choices from The Winery at Wilcox, will take place in conjunction with the showcase. Winklbauer designed many of the labels featured on the winery's bottles.
