EASES INTO THIRD - Elk County Catholic's Andie Beveridge, left, eases into third base after a ball got past the Clearfield catcher during Friday's softball game played at Benzinger Park.
In the first game, Elk lost a 13-3, five inning contest to the Clearfield Lady Bisons. In the nightcap, the Lady Crusaders came up with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to edge the Brookville Lady Raiders 8-7.

In the first game, the Lady Bisons had three triples and a double off of losing pitcher Amber Schaefer. Mandy Rowles got the win. Ashley Lias had three hits to lead the 10-hit Clearfield attack.

Elk Catholic had five hits. Getting those hits were Dominique DeFrain, Kaitlyn Coroso, Laken Lenox, Andie Beveridge and Casey Reed.

"All the wheels fell off today," said ECCHS Coach Joe Coroso.

"Clearfield hit very well and they deserved the victory," added Coroso.

Clearfield went in order in the top of the first inning. Elk stranded a runner in their half of the inning.

The Lady Bisons came up with one run on three hits to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning. In the home half of the inning, the Lady Crusaders scored three times to take the 3-1 lead. Kayla Bryson-Tucker led off with a walk. She stole second. Andie Beveridge singled sending Bryson-Tucker to third. Mary Kate Minnick reached base on an error permitting Bryson-Tucker and Beveridge to score. Minnick would later score on a passed ball to give Elk the 3-1 lead.

Clearfield scored three times on two hits in the top of the third to take the 4-3 lead. The Lady Crusaders stranded two in their half of the inning. The Lady Bisons scored three runs on three hits in the top of the fourth to take a 7-3 lead. The Lady Crusaders again left two runners stranded.

Clearfield came up with six runs on four hits and three errors in the top of the fifth to take a 13-3 lead. Elk went down in order as the Lady Bisons won 13-3 in five innings.

In the nightcap, the Lady Crusaders came back from a 5-1 deficit to defeat the Lady Raiders.

Ranee Catalone of the Lady Crusaders recorded her first varsity victory with the four-hitter.

The Lady Crusaders were led offensively by Kaitlyn Coroso and Andie Beveridge each picking up three hits including a triple apiece. Laken Lenox, Brittany Buchheit and Chipper Brem collected two hits apiece. Coroso also had three RBIs.

"It was good to come back after an earlier loss in the day to Clearfield where all our fundamentals went out the window," said ECCHS Coach Joe Coroso.

"Ranee struggled early in her first start but settled down in the end to get the win. Our bats also came alive," added coach Coroso.

Brookville left one runner on base in the top of the first inning. In the home half of the inning, Elk left two runners stranded.

Brookville took the 3-0 lead in the top of the second on two hits and two errors. The Lady Crusaders made it 3-1 when Beveridge singled and stole second. She moved to third when Loren Olewnik reached base on an error and scored on a wild pitch.

Brookville came up with two more runs in the top of the third on one hit and an error to lead 5-1. The Lady Crusaders left a runner stranded.

Brookville went in order in the top of the fourth while Elk Catholic left a runner on base.
