Members of city council held their third and final budget meeting on Monday evening and were able to balance the city's 2011 budget. According to Carol Muhitch, city finance director, after the cutbacks made by council and city employees, the 2011 budget will contain around a $100 increase to residents' real estate property taxes.
One of the main points of contention among council members regarding the budget was the fact that it still contains a flat three percent wage increase for all city management employees. This increase will need to be approved by city council members at one of their future meetings; however, all city union and police employees will receive a similar increase next year as part of their contract.
