Sylvester S. Himes, 69, of 455 Fairview Hill Road, Ridgway, died Thursday evening at Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys following a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 18, 1941 in Kersey, son of the late Edna M. Himes. He married Monica Streich on Aug. 19, 1961, she survives. He had resided in Ridgway for the last 49 years and was a former Brockport resident. He was a member of the Living Waters Christian Church in Ridgway. He was an avid bowler, a Nascar fan, he repaired antique clocks, enjoyed hunting and trapping, and driving race cars at the Hummingbird Speedway. He had been employed by Ridgway Color for 33 years, he also worked for Fullington driving school bus, the Manno Corp., and Intech Metals.
Surviving besides his wife are the following children, one daughter, Deborah L. Gnan and her husband Steven of Ridgway, one son John P. Himes of Ridgway, three grandchildren; Steven Jr., Jessica and Andrew, one great-granddaughter, Honey Lynn, five brothers; Robert Himes Jr. of Brockport, Jay Dee Himes of Brockport, Wayne Himes of DuBois, Gales Himes of Reynoldsville, Calvin Himes of Luthersburg, two sisters; Mary Alice Lindemuth of Brockport, Mary Ann Reitz of Luthersburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his mother he was preceded in death by two sisters; Rochelle Jamison, and Betty Jane Clark, four brothers; Thomas, Wesley, Benjamin and George Himes.
A Memorial Service for Sylvester S. Himes will be held at the River Outreach Center, 20 Gillis Ave., Ridgway, at 2 p.m., Sunday Nov. 14. Officiating will be Pastor Bill Braley of the Living Waters Christian Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
