Joan G. Verbka, 69, of 276 Coal Hollow Road, Kersey, died unexpectedly Sunday, April 20, 2014, at Penn Highlands Elk.
She was born July 24, 1944 in Anita, daughter of the late Matthew and Helen Anderson Gresock. On July 24, 1965 in the St. Joseph’s Church in Anita, she married Rudy Verbka who survives.
She was a graduate of Punxsutawney High School, Class of 1962 and had been a lifelong resident of the Kersey area. She served as the church secretary at St. Boniface Church for 30 years and still worked as a columnist for the local newspapers.
She is also survived by two daughters, Lori Micsky and her husband David of Mercer and Jill Nash and her husband Michael of Youngsville, N.C.; a son, Joseph M. Verbka and his wife Jackie of Cabot; five grandchildren, Ryan Micsky, Christopher Micsky, Kate Verbka, Aidan Nash, and Cooper Nash; a brother, Mark Gresock and his wife Patty of Soldier; and by several nieces and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Pellegrino; and three brothers, Terry, Jack, and Greg Gresock.
Mrs. Verbka was a member of the St. Boniface Church. She served as a Fox Township Judge of Elections and was a member of the Fox Township Lioness Club. She was an active member of the St. Boniface Rosary Society and served on the funeral luncheon committee at the church.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Joan G. Verbka will be celebrated in the St. Boniface Church on Thursday, April 24 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. James Faluszczak, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Adrian/Anita Roman Catholic Cemetery in Anita.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5-8 p.m. and at the St. Boniface Church Thursday morning from 9 a.m. until Mass time.
