Members of the Pennsylvania State Police Motor Carrier Enforcement Unit review vehicles just past the end of the Boot Jack bypass. Members of the unit are specially trained to look for discrepancies in log books that truckers are required to maintain as proof they're taking the required breaks. Title 49 is a federal law which deems truckers may only be on the road for 11 hours before they're required to take a break.
RIDGWAY – PennDOT officials, the Pennsylvania State Police and local police will be banding together in an effort to make Independence Day holiday travel safer.
Last year, there were 256 alcohol-related crashes resulting in 11 fatalities from Friday, June 30, to Sunday, July 9. This marked a decrease from 2012, where there were 355 alcohol-related crashes and 20 fatalities. Also during the holiday period last year there were 69 drug-related crashes and four fatalities in those crashes.
