The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5887 presented a check to the Elk County Sheriff's Office for the purchase of a Taser gun.
The $900 check was presented by VFW 5887 Post Commander Ricky Hicks to Elk County Sheriff Jeffrey Krieg and deputies Patrick Straub and William Gerg Jr.
“It is a less-than-lethal weapon that we like to use for trouble in a courtroom and things like that,” said Krieg. “By using it, we don't incur the liability like you do when you have to shoot somebody.
“It's mainly for my deputies to use in those situations and this will give us two now for the department.”
The $900 donation is not just for the gun itself, but also for the purchase of the batteries, two sets of cartridges, which are the actual ammunition barbs, and a holster.
“They are good to have for that reason, because it's less lethal and it's very incapacitating,” said deputy William Gerg Jr. “It's a good tool to have.”
