Harold R. Young, age 87, of 108 Irishtown Rd., Kersey, died Monday morning, Jan. 10, 2011 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 1, 1923 in Brockway, son of the late Thomas R. and Stella B. (Truesdale) Young.
He had resided in the Kersey area for over 40 years and was a member of the Kersey United Methodist Church, the Fox Township Fire Department, the American Legion Post #511, the Toby Grange, where he was a past Master, and the Fox Township Senior Center. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific and was a Veteran of WWII. He had been employed by Stackpole Carbon Co. for 17 years and retired from Imperial Metal after 20 years of service.
He is survived by one son, Thomas R. Young and his wife Deborah of Kersey; a sister, Connie L. Moats of Elkins, W. Va.; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald and Dale Young, and by two sisters, Dorothy Young and Shirley Fiddler.
A memorial service for Harold R. Young will be held at the Kersey United Methodist Church on Thursday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Joni Williams, pastor of the Kersey United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials, if desired, can be made to the Fox Township Ambulance Association or to the Fox Township Senior Center.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Thompson Funeral Home.
