The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch used an 18-0 run to start the second half on their way to a 66-19 non-league victory over the Ridgway Lady Elkers last night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
The Lady Dutch led 19-6 after the first period and held a 23-10 lead at the half. The Lady Dutch connected on six straight three-pointers to break the game open and take a 51-10 lead with 1:15 left in the third period.
“We shot the ball well and played good defense,” said St. Marys coach Bob Swanson.
Swanson noted that his squad hit 47 percent from the two-point range and 30 percent from the three-point range.
“Friday’s game at Brookville is important as far as the league goes,” said Swanson.
The St. Marys offense was led by Kayla Hoohuli with 33 points on five twos, seven threes and a two-for-three night from the foul line. Adair Gennocro and Mandy Gerarge were next with seven points each.
Bri Stenta and Dani Shirey led Ridgway with six points each. Stenta scored her points on three field goals, while Shirey scored her points on one two, one three and a one-for-four night from the foul line.
“St. Marys has a good team and Kayla (Hoohuli) lit it up in the third quarter,” said Ridgway coach Glenn Schauer.
“We didn’t play our game tonight. I am not happy with the way we played. Offensively, we didn’t get the ball inside to Nicole (Breier) and if she doesn’t get it inside she can’t score,” he added.
Hoohuli and Bryton Dybowski traded buckets to open the contest. Hoohuli scored two field goals, while Gennocro and Gerarge added, two giving St. Marys the 10-2 lead. Dybowski hit a field goal, 10-4. Hoohuli hit a three and Gennocro a two, 15-4. Shirey scored on a putback, 15-6. Gerarge hit a two and Gennocro hit two foul shots, giving St. Marys the 19-6 lead after the first quarter.
Shelby Zomcik and DeAnna Yost hit field goals, 23-6. Taylor Roseto scored for Ridgway. SMA’s Sloan Foster sank a foul shot, with Stenta scoring for the Lady Elkers. Kayla Hoohuli scored off a steal and Kiana Hoohuli converted a three-point play, 29-10. Kayla Hoohuli scored on a putback at the 2:51 mark, 31-10. Kayla Hoohuli converted two foul shots, giving St. Marys the 33-10 halftime lead.
The Lady Dutch scored the first 18 points of the third period to take a 51-10 lead. Kayla Hoohuli hit five threes and Gerarge one in that stretch. Stenta scored for Ridgway before Kayla Hoohuli hit another three. Stenta scored again, with Hoohuli hitting a three with three seconds left, as St. Marys took the 57-14 lead with eight minutes remaining.
In the fourth quarter, St. Marys outscored Ridgway 9-5 to win the game 66-19. Anderson led St. Marys with six, while Yost had three. Shirey had four points and Breier one for Ridgway.
The Lady Dutch are now 13-1 on the year. They are 4-1 in the District 9 League.
The Lady Elkers are now 1-13 on the year. Ridgway returns to action tonight when they travel to Curwensville.

The St. Marys junior varsity team defeated the Ridgway squad by a 25-22 score.
St. Marys took an 8-2 first-quarter lead. They outscored Ridgway 10-5 in the second quarter to take an 18-7 first-half lead.
Ridgway outscored the Lady Dutch 2-1 in the third period and 13-6 in the fourth quarter, making the final score 25-22 in favor of St. Marys.
