Stephen Bruno Iorfido, 87, of 522 First Ave., Johnsonburg, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at DuBois Regional Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 23, 1923 in Ridgway, the son of the late Bruno and Teresa Galatti Iorfido. On Aug. 15, 1949, he married Rose Mary Sette, who predeceased him on March 29, 2010.
Mr. Iorfido was a lifelong Johnsonburg resident. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He, along with his wife Rose, was the owner/operator of The Iorfido Beverage Co. from 1945 thru 2005. Regionally, his band Steve Yarfido and Orchestra, were avidly followed in the early 1940s. He was a charter member of the Elk Co. Industrial Development Corp., the Johnsonburg Chamber of Commerce, Johnsonburg Zoning Board and the Johnsonburg Area Development Corp.
He was also a member of the Elk County Planning Commission Board and a 219 By-Pass Board member and director. He was a member of the Moose, Elks, Legion, St. Joseph’s Society, Knights of Columbus, Piedmont, Central Hose Co., and the Rolfe Sportsmans Club.
A veteran of WWII, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard and played in the Coast Guard Band.
He is survived by four children, Bruno Iorfido (Valerie) of Ridgway, Teresa Kelleher (Bill) of Pittsburgh, Francis Iorfido (Cindy) of Johnsonburg, and Stephen "Yarf" Iorfido (Carol) of Johnsonburg; and eight grandchildren, Paul and Beau Iorfido, Billy and Stephen Kelleher, Francis and Eric Iorfido, and Stephen and Sara Iorfido. He was the last member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a grandson, Bruno Iorfido; two brothers, Stephen and Samuel Iorfido; and by four sisters, Vincenza Iozzo, Victoria Chirillo, Joanne Votano and Rosemary Horchen.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Stephen Iorfido will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Johnsonburg. Offificating will be Fr. David J. Wilson , pastor. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Johnsonburg Senior Center or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
