The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader basketball team raised their District 9 League record to 5-2 with a 41-24 victory over the Punxsutawney Lady Chucks last night at Punxsutawney.
The Lady Crusaders were able to take a 23-13 lead at the half. In the second half, Elk Catholic outscored their hosts by an 18-11 margin to come out on top 41-24.
“We had very good interior defense tonight,” said ECCHS Coach Ken Pistner. “We protected the ball well tonight, as we only committed 12 turnovers.
“We also had a balanced scoring attack.”
The Lady Crusaders were led by Karly Carnovale with 17 points on six twos, one three and a two-for-two night from the foul line. Abbi Petrosky was next with eight points.
Shawnna Crago led Punxsy with seven points, while Parris Kernich added five.
In the first period of play, the Lady Crusaders took a 14-9 lead.
Elk Catholic outscored Punxsutawney 9-4 in the second quarter, as they opened a 23-13 halftime lead.
The Lady Crusaders outscored the Lady Chucks by a12-6 margin in the third period, as they opened a 35-19 lead with eight minutes remaining.
In the fourth quarter, Elk Catholic outscored Punxsy by a 6-5 margin to win the game 41-24.
Elk Catholic is now 15-4 on the year. They are 5-2 in District 9 League play and finished AML play with a 5-1 record.
The Lady Crusaders return to action Wednesday night when they travel to Brookville to take on the Lady Raiders in another District 9 League game.
