During their meeting earlier this week, members of city council approved a variety of motions concerning legislative items within the city.
Council members gave their unanimous approval to Resolution 11-3, which certifies that the city has maintained a portion of Prince Alley for 21 years.
According to City Manager Dave Greene, PennDOT required that the city ascertain ownership and maintenance of a portion of Prince Alley in order for them to obtain liquid fuels funding for that road.
"There's also no ordinance accepting this road as a public road," Greene explained to council. "The attached resolution states that the former borough and now city has maintained 264 linear feet of the western portion of Prince Alley for over 21 years. If the municipality can vouch that maintenance has occurred for over 21 years, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will place this road on our liquid fuels allocation."
Council members also gave their approval to James T. Baumgratz filling a five-year vacancy on the city's Zoning Hearing Board. Baumgratz previously served in the capacity of an alternate for the board. William Rung was approved by council to fill the alternate role.
Additionally, council members approved creating a salary position for the city's assistant street superintendent.
