RIDGWAY - Thanks to multiple donations throughout the years, various programs offered to the community by the county's sheriff's department have continued to impact area residents.
JoAnne Ryan, CEO and president of Alpha Sintered Metals, recently made an undisclosed monetary donation to the department.
"I became aware of all the programs that the sheriff's department offers to the community and their involvement with the community through the programs that [chief deputy] Theresa [Merritt] administers with the children's programs and identity," Ryan said. "I was really impressed with the programs offered and the community involvement both at a personal level and at a department level.
"I participated in the handgun safety course and it was extremely well-done, a very comprehensive program and I think that is a valuable service regarding safety and security for women in Elk County."
The sheriff's department offers many programs to the community, including women and handguns courses, digital ID program, child photo ID, kid escape program and Amber Stick.
