A significant crowd was on hand Wednesday morning as St. Marys' newest retailer, Shoe Sensation, opened its doors to eager customers.
In celebrating the grand opening, several store employees and corporate personnel were on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Numerous representatives from the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed store personnel to the area and hosted the ceremony.
Located in the Giant Eagle plaza along the Million Dollar Highway in St. Marys, Shoe Sensation is under the management of Dave Bateman of St. Marys and Lindsey Merritt, originally from DuBois, as assistant manager.
The 5,000-square-foot store includes a vast selection of shoes available for the entire family, from infants to seniors, and carries styles appropriate for dress, casual, athletic and work wear.
In addition, the store sells an array of accessories such as handbags, wallets, shoe care products, sunglasses, socks, children's accessories, backpacks, umbrellas and scarves.
"There will always be a different special each week and our 'best deals,'" explained Julie Gagel, director of public relations. "We are also always accepting job applications, which can be found in our store or online."
She noted that a great amount of research into an area's demographics and specific towns is completed as part of Shoe Sensation's process in reviewing where to locate new stores.
"We utilize software that provides such information. We also consider recommendations from real estate developers and such," Gagel said, adding that the St. Marys area seemed like a good location for a Shoe Sensation branch.
Prescription/orthopedic shoes and accessories, which address specific foot needs such as shoes and socks for diabetics, are available as well as special-order prom shoes.
New shipments of items arrive at the store weekly. Layaway is also available.
