Martha Neubert Rees, 94, of Winchester, Va., died Friday, May 13, 2011 at Westminster Canterbury.
She was born in 1917 in Renova, the daughter of the late Edward and Barbara Neubert.
She married the Reverend Paul Joseph Rees on May 15, 1937 in Olean, N.Y., who preceded her in death on March 7, 2005.
From 1950 to 1963, she worked for the National Cancer Institute of the National Health Institutes and from 1965 to 1967, she was a staff member of the late Congressman Philip J. Philbin of Massachusetts. She then worked in the U.S. House of Representatives on the Science and Astronautics Committee until her retirement in 1974. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and a former member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Front Royal, Va. She was also a former member of St. John’s Parish Council of Catholic Women, the Front Royal Garden Club and a life member of the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs.
She is survived by two nieces, two nephews, one cousin/goddaughter, four grandnephews, three grandnieces and a great-grandnephew.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Cyril V. Neubert, in December of 2010.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Martha Neubert Rees was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, with Father Stanley J. Krempa officiating. A Memorial Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Ridgway. Interment will be on today in Ridgway Catholic Cemetery of St. Leo’s Church in Ridgway.
The family will receive friends a half hour before the Mass in the Narthex of the Church.
