William A. Schena, 72, of Cowley Hill Rd., Austin, died suddenly Monday, May 30, 2011 at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center of Altoona.
He was born Aug. 27, 1938, in Weedville, son of the late Andrew "Godfrey" and Angelina (Martioni) Schena.
He was a graduate of Bennetts Valley High School, Class of 1957. Born and raised in Weedville, he lived many places across the country and spent the past six years in Austin. He was an Army Atomic Veteran, serving in 1957. He was self-employed in logging and coal mining occupations for most of his life. He retired from the PA Fish & Game Commission as a deputy game warden under Harold Harshbarger.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Force. He was also an avid gun collector and wine maker. He was a member of Bucktail Rod & Gun Club, Sinnemahoning Sportsmen’s, Horton Twp. Sportsmen’s, Austin-Costello Sportsmen’s and the Loyal Order of Moose. He enjoyed fishing, trucks, the outdoors, traveling and spending time with family.
He is survived by a son, Jon C. Schena Sr. of Corry; three grandchildren, Katie Adams, Jon C. Schena Jr. and Rachael Schena; and a sister, Mary Nelson of Phoenix, Ariz.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jamie W. Schena.
A Mass of Christian Burial for William A. Schena will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Force with Father Thomas Tyler celebrating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded by the Bennetts Valley Legion Post 978 Burial Detail.
Visitation will be held at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home, Penfield, on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
