William L. "Triple P" Summerson Sr., 81, of 214 Columbus St., St. Marys, died Friday, June 17, 2011 at the home of his son William Summerson Jr. of Cuneo Road, Kersey, after an illness of the past two months.
He was born Oct. 10, 1929, in Sterling Run, son of the late Fred Leroy and Marie Devling Summerson.
He attended Sterling Run schools and had resided in St. Marys since 1992. He was a former employee of the Mallery Lumber Co. in Emporium and retired from the Bureau of Reclamation and had been last employed by the Keystone Carbon Co.
On July 5, 1954, in the Shiloh Presbyterian Church, he married Jo Ann Means, who preceded him in death on July 29, 1997. He had waited 14 years to join her in eternal rest.
He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth (Lisa) Wehler of DuBois; two sons, William L. Summerson Jr. (Melissa) of Kersey and David M. Summerson (Lynn) of Emporium; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Bibana Park of Emporium; three brothers, Donald Summerson of Dover, Robert "Jerry" Summerson (Cindy) of Cameron and Steve (Marge) Summerson of Emporium.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Rees.
Mr. Summerson was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW Post 6221 in Emporium; enjoyed traveling and his trips to Salamaca; and enjoyed being with his family, grandchildren and friends.
Funeral services for William L. "Triple P" Summerson Sr. will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 21 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Loren Conklin officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Burial will follow in the St. Marys Protestant Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.
