Food, friends and music are just the tip of what's in store at the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce's first annual Clam and Kielbasa Bake being held Sunday, Aug. 7 from 1-8 p.m. at the St. Marys Sportsmen's Club.
Attendees will enjoy a traditional clambake along with kielbasa served shish-kabob style or as part of a steamed meal of corn on the cob, shrimp and potatoes. Tickets for the much-anticipated event go on sale Friday, July 8 at noon and can be obtained by stopping by or calling the Chamber office at 781-3804 or through an e-mail request at email@example.com . In addition, discounted tickets are available for designated drivers.
The event is open to the general public; however, attendees must be 21 years of age or older and must show a valid driver's license upon entry into the event. Ticket prices include food, drink and all-day entertainment.
Local hit band Six Pak will warm up the crowd from 1-4 p.m., followed by "The Beach Bumz," a Baltimore-based band specializing in summer hits by The Beach Boys, Jimmy Buffet, Bob Marley and others, performing from 5-8 p.m.
"The purpose of this event is to launch our individual membership drive. In addition to industrial and small business/retail memberships, we are now offering this new individual option," said Mark Rupprecht, Chamber president. "As we work on things going into the future, member benefits are what we see as a major concern we and are focused on them. We see some money going back to directly impacting our members and we need to be financially stronger to achieve some of these goals."
As part of this endeavor, attendees will have the opportunity to take advantage of a special introductory offer for individual residents to join the Chamber that day.
"This is a fantastic, inexpensive way for people to join the Chamber," added Rupprecht. "We want to become more involved in the community in a way that doesn't limit us to the traditional types of Chamber memberships."
