Sister Jean Marie Langevin, OSB, 93, of the St. Joseph Monastery, St. Marys, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011 at Pinecrest Manor.
She was born Oct. 10, 1917 in Ellenburg, N.Y., daughter of the late Paul and Augusta Patenaude Langevin.
She attended Ellenburg Public Schools in Ellenburg, N.Y., and St. Benedict's Academy in St. Marys. She entered the Novitiate in 1938; took her first vows in 1939; and her perpetual vows on July 11, 1942. She celebrated her silver anniversary on July 11, 1964; her golden jubilee on July 11, 1989; and her diamond jubilee on Aug. 22, 1999. She received her bachelor of science degree in Elementary Education from Villanova University and was a graduate of the Plattsburg Business School. She also attended the Famous Writers School in Newport, Ct.; Newspaper Institute of America in New York, N.Y.; and Saint Francis College in Loretto.
Sister Jean Marie also taught at Sacred Heart School; St. Mary's Parochial School, where she also served as the librarian; and Queen of the World School, also serving as librarian.
She taught at Saint Joseph School in Lucinda and was also the principal; she also taught at St. Boniface in Kersey and was the principal. She was a CCD instructor in Coudersport.
She is survived by one brother, Gerald "Joe" Langevin of Florida.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Roderick, Edgar, and Paul Langevin; and six sisters, Mina Warner, Jeanette Patnode, Clarinda McQuaid, Sister M. Angela, OSB; Sister Paula, OSB; and Sister Bonaventure, OSB.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Jean Marie Langevin, OSB, will be celebrated in the St. Joseph Monastery Chapel on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation is at the St. Joseph Monastery from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Monastery, 303 Church St., St. Marys, PA 15857.
