Kenneth L. Bedford, 91, of Old Portage Road, Emporium, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011 at the Elk Haven Nursing Home of St. Marys following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 16, 1920 in Driftwood, a son of the late Percy H. and Matilda "May" Bedford.
He was raised in Johnsonburg, but lived most of his life in New York and came back to Pennsylvania in 2008.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, including the D-Day invasion at Normandy, Ardennes, Central Europe, Northern France and Rhineland. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and the "LOOB." He worked as molder with Carborundum of Niagara Falls, N.Y.
He is survived by one daughter, Sheila Bullers of Ridgway; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, LeRoy Bedford Sr.; two grandchildren, Joe Bedford and LeRoy Bedford Jr.; three brothers, Clarence, Ralph and Tom Hicks; and two sisters, Gladys McGonigal and Virginia Shaffer.
Funeral services for Kenneth L. Bedford will be celebrated on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Ubel Funeral Home, Johnsonburg, with Pastor Jay Tennies officiating.
Burial will follow in the Wardvale Methodist Cemetery in Johnsonburg.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ubel Funeral Home. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg/Wilcox Servicemen's Detail. Military members are to assemble at the funeral home on Thursday at 12:45 p.m.
