James Irvin Julian, 85, of Columbia City, Ore., died at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 28, 2011.
He was born February 21, 1926 at Indianapolis, Ind., to the late John Emsley and Gladys Lucille (Foxall) Julian. On June 7, 1947, in Chicago, Ill., he married Marion Elizabeth Yates, who survives.
He was the elder of two sons. Raised in Indiana, he graduated from Cornell and Purdue universities, as well as Wesleyan University. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant J.G in 1956. He retired in 1994 at the age of 68 after a lifetime as an engineer in the paper manufacturing industry. He and his wife moved to Columbia City, Ore. about two and a half years ago to be with family.
In addition to his wife of more than 64 years, he is survived by his children, John Julian of Columbia City, Ore., Philip of Dunkirk, N.Y., Lynn Julian–Warda of White Haven, Steven Julian of Denver, Colo., Ladine Lipinski of Pinehurst, N.C., and James S. Julian of St. Marys; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great- grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John “Jack” Julian.
Memorial services for James Irvin Julian will be held at a later date.
