RIDGWAY – Republican Janis E. Kemmer reportedly defeated incumbent Democrat Ronald T. Beimel for the position of Elk County Commissioner in one of the few close races in Tuesday's general election. As of press time, with all precincts reporting, Kemmer earned a total of 3,099 votes, while Beimel netted 2,966. Fellow incumbents Republican Daniel R. Freeburg and Democrat June Heigel Sorg both retained their positions, earning 3,776 and 3,999 votes, respectively. There were also 30 write-in votes cast.
According to statistics provided in the unofficial results on the Elk County website, 38.09 percent of county voters cast ballots in the election.

In the race for Magisterial District Judge to replace Donald Wilhelm, Mark S. Jacob earned 2,751 votes running on both the Republican and Democrat tickets. A total of 1,765 write-in votes was also received.
For Elk County Prothonotary, Republican Susanne Straub Schneider earned 4,548 votes to beat out Democrat Sarah R. Dickinson, who earned 2,878. A total of 6 write-in votes was received.
Republican Michelle Muccio took the race for Elk County Coroner, earning 4,790 votes to Democrat Keith VanHorn's 2,594. Four write-in votes were also cast.
Democrat Jeff Krieg will continue to serve as sheriff, earning 4,534 votes compared to Republican challenger Blaise V. Dornisch's 2,901. There were 14 write-in votes cast.
