Vincent F. “Jim” Varisano, 85, of 621 Dawson Street, Kane, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2012 at his residence.
Born Dec. 16, 1926, in Kane, he was a son of the late Peter and Angeline Ferraro Varisano.
Jim, a graduate of Kane High School Class of 1944, served in the U.S. Army during World War II, with service in Japan. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Kane, retiring in 1986 after 31 years of service.
As an active member of his church and community, Jim was a lifetime 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #715, and a lifetime member of the following: American Legion Post #250, Moose Lodge #130, Lions Club, Elks Lodge #329 and the Sons of Italy.
Additionally, he was a member of the V.F.W. Lodge #1307, the D.A.V., Kane Country Club, Kane Chamber of Commerce, Kane Fish & Game Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Ludlow Sportsmen's Club and the AARP.
Also, as a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church, he served on the finance committee and the pastoral council.
In 1992, Jim was selected as the “Outstanding Citizen of the Year” for his service to the community, much of which he did anonymously.
Surviving are two sisters, Rose Varisano and Anne (Walt) Nalducci of Kane; a sister-in–law, Janice Varisano of Ridge, N.Y.; 13 nieces and nephews; 35 great-nieces and great-nephews; and four great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Varisano; and two sisters, Nancy Sirianni and Mary Varisano.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Vincent F. “Jim” Varisano will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Callistus Church, with the Rev. Philip Pinczewski, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at St. Callistus Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., with a vigil service at 8:30 p.m.
