Veolia Greentree Landfill Manager Don Heinrichs was not able to attend Tuesday's meeting of the Elk County Solid Waste Authority, but Elk County Recycling/Solid Waste Coordinator Bekki Titchner provided a report on his behalf.
The landfill is taking in between 2,200 to 2,600 tons per day, a lower-than-normal volume that Heinrichs attributed to higher fuel expenses for companies to truck the material. The landfill is installing some new wells in place on the north and west sides and is continuing to make upgrades to its leachate treatment plant. When completed, the plant will be able to treat about 300,000 gallons of leachate per day.
The authority discussed the fact that the landfill is up for sale and hoped that the next company to own it would be as amenable to work with as Veolia and its employees have been.
