Thomas F. “Groucho” Cribbs, 79, of 133 South St., Ridgway, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 10, 2012.
He was born Sept. 22, 1932 in Penfield, the son of the late Thomas E. and Rachel Bilodeau Cribbs. On June 28, 1953, he married Edna H. Merritt, who survives. They had been married for 58 years.
Mr. Cribbs had been a Ridgway area resident all of his life. He was Methodist by faith. He graduated from Kersey High School, Class of 1951. He had been employed at Carbone of America, retiring in 1992, and at Motion Control for several years after retiring from Carbone. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.
He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan and he enjoyed, hunting, fishing, gardening and his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Randy Cribbs (Stephanie), Melinda Gasbarre (Joe), Rodney Cribbs, and Faith Burger, all of Ridgway; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Allen Cribbs; a daughter, Jaime Lynn-Hanna Cribbs; a brother, Donald Cribbs, and by his stepfather, Dwight Reichard.
Funeral and committal services for Thomas F. "Groucho" Cribbs will be held at the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 11 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Christopher Kindle, pastor of the St. Marys First United Methodsit Church.
Friends will be received at the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home on Monday, March 12, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. Military honors will be accorded by the Ridgway Military Honor Detail.
