John F. "Jack" Ritter, 80, of 125 Mark St., St. Marys, died on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Elk Regional Health Center following a brief illness.
He was born July 23, 1931 in St. Marys, a son of the late Thomas and Agnes Lynch Ritter.
On Feb. 24, 1962 in Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg, he married Joan Gapinski Ritter, who survives.
Mr. Ritter was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of Sacred Heart Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he received during the war.
He was employed at the former Pure Carbon for more than 40 years and was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, ﬁshing and gardening.
He was a big fan of the Pittsburgh sports teams and also enjoyed walking. He was a gentle and caring husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife of 50 years, he is survived by three sons, John Ritter and his wife Patty of Weedville, Mark Ritter and his wife Tina of St. Marys, and Michael Ritter and his wife Shawna of St. Marys; three daughters, Cecelia, Mrs. Mark Bankowski of Johnsonburg, Jane, Mrs. Michael Wolfel of St. Marys and Joyce Ann, Mrs. William Walker of Fairlawn, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Megan and Emma Bankowski, Amanda and Adam Wolfel, Tyler and Alexis Walker, and Cody, Emily and Hannah Ritter; and one great-grandchild, Poston Wolfel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Ritter, and by a sister in infancy.
A Mass of Christian burial for John F. "Jack" Ritter will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 325 Center St., St. Marys, on
Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Eric Vogt, O.S.B., as celebrant. Military honors will be conducted by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 N. Michael St, St. Marys, on Tuesday morning from 8:30-9:30 a.m.
