Ray E. Lewis, 89, of 1470 Montmorenci Rd., Ridgway, died early Tuesday morning, March 13, 2012, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 23, 1922, in Ridgway, son of the late Charles H. and Josephine (Greeley) Lewis. He married Flora A. Bobenrieth on April 1, 1977; she survives.
He had resided in Ridgway all of his life and was a member of the American Legion Post #208. Ray was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to garden. He served in the U.S. Army and was a WWII veteran. He had been a self-employed truck driver for Lewis Trucking for 52 years.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, James Lewis and his wife Christine of St. Marys, and Lee Lewis and his wife Mary of Ridgway; three step-children, Michelle Fusco and her husband George of Brookville, Gene Feldbauer of North Carolina, and Toni Zettle and her husband Jon of St. Marys; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Ingram of Kersey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Bullers Lewis; one daughter, Lavonne Feldbauer; and six brothers, Ross, Ray, Ralph, Dean, Robert and Richard Lewis.
A memorial service for Ray E. Lewis will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home on Friday, March 16 at 9 a.m., with military honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen's Burial Detail. Officiating will be the Rev. Craig W. Duffield, pastor of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
