The Elk County Catholic High School and St. Marys Area High School golf teams both opened their seasons on Thursday afternoon, competing in the annual St. Marys-DuBois Challenge at Bavarian Hills Golf Course.
ECC finished in first place in the four-school event with 23 points. St. Marys was second with 16 points. DuBois Central Catholic was third with 14 points, and DuBois Area High School was fourth with 7 points. Six golfers from each school participated in the 18-hole contest.
The medalist for the day was Elk Catholic's Elliott Struble with a 10-over-par round of 81. The low scorer for St. Marys was Owen Schreiber with an 85. DCC's Pat Sayers shot an 83, and DuBois Area's Steve Jacobson was the low scorer for his squad with a 101.
Also for the Crusaders, Jess Jaynes had an 84, Brandon Schlimm and Drew Meyer had 85s, and Bruno Cavalline and Mitchell Struble had 87s.
For the Dutchmen, Rudy Gleixner and Justin Beimel had 91s, Quinn Cunningham had a 96, Dillon Gallagher had a 98, and Garett Wendel had a 101.
Also for DuBois Central Catholic, Mark Walker had a 95, Ben Trinkley had a 95, Dan Sayers had a 100, Kurt Palmer had a 105, and Connor Hindman had a 116.
For DuBois Area, Clayton Reed had a 102, Alex Joggi had a 106, Justin Rock had a 107, Nic Esposito had a 132, and Dan Brown had a 154.
The ECC team is back in action Thursday as they travel to Bradford for a 1 p.m. match with the Owls.
St. Marys will return to action Thursday when they host Johnsonburg at 3:30 p.m. at Bavarian Hills.
