Lawrence M. Broughton, 64, of 101 N. Mill St., Ridgway, and formerly of St. Marys, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2010 at the Elk Regional Health Center after a brief illness.
He was born June 24, 1946, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late A. Matthew and Mary Taylor Broughton.
He was a graduate of Baldwin High School in Long Island, N.Y., attended Hofstra University and was a graduate of Montclair State University. He was a retired controller.
He is survived by two daughters, Amy Matta and her husband Ashok of Cranberry Twp. and Kathryn Brem and her husband Edward of St. Marys; a son, Daniel J. Broughton and his wife Tara of St. Marys; four grandchildren, Kathryn Matta, Aidan Matta, Liam Brem and Milo Brem; three sisters, Anne Holton and her husband Richard of Minneapolis, Minn., Lucia Greenberg and her husband Steven of Breezy Point, N.Y, and Maryalice Cantasano of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a brother, Denis Broughton of Long Island, N.Y. and a sister-in-law, Roseann Broughton of Long Island, N.Y.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Broughton.
He was a veteran of the army, serving during the Vietnam War. While at Hofstra University, he served in the fraternity of Pershing Rifles and was also a member of the American Legion.
Family and friends of the late Lawrence M. Broughton are invited to attend a funeral Mass to be celebrated in the St. Mary's Church on Tuesday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Eric Vogt, O.S.B, as celebrant.
Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
