Margaret E. "Peg" Krellner, 95, of 1570 Bucktail Rd., St. Marys, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center.
She was born Nov. 30, 1917 in Transfer, a daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Gaede Cooney.
Following the death of her mother when Peg was six, she and her younger sister Kathryn and baby brother John lived with Cooney relatives in Genessee. After graduating from Genessee High School, Krellner moved to St. Marys to live with her aunt, Marguerite Wolfe.
On Nov. 24, 1938 in St. Mary's Church, she married the late Joseph Krellner, who preceded her in death in 1986.
She was a member of Queen of the World Church. She volunteered at the Elk Regional Health Center Re-Sale Shop for more than 40 years. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of two bridge clubs. She also enjoyed visits from her grandchildren.
She was an avid reader and devoted one room of her home for a library of books. Other parts of the home housed enough cookbooks to give her the adventure of creating an original meal.
She loved picnics and parties, and also loved flowers, both indoors and outside. She had a green thumb for gardening and always told her grandchildren that they would remember her, not by her cookies, but by her pea soup. She traveled the county to garage and yard sales in order to provide books and toys for her grandchildren. She was also affectionately known as "Grandma Blue" by one of her great-grandsons.
She is survived by two sons, Justin Krellner and his wife Becky of Coudersport and Brian Krellner and his wife Chris of St. Marys; five daughters, Sandra Metzler of St. Marys, Evelyn, Mrs. Bud Krug of St. Marys, Patricia, Mrs. Carl Pfeufer of St. Marys, Susanne, Mrs. Bill Astley of Plattsmouth, Neb., and Paula, Mrs. Dan Micale of Toby; a daughter-in-law, Annice Krellner of Emporium; a son-in-law, Walter Wilson of Kersey; 30 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Ted Krellner in 2011; a daughter, Kathy Wilson in 2003; a sister, Kathryn Cooney in early childhood; a brother, John Cooney and his wife Genevieve; and a son-in-law, Frank Metzler.
