Donald E. Kirst, 87, of 627 Fox Rd., St. Marys, died on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 following a brief illness.
He was born Dec. 4, 1925 in Buffalo, N.Y., a son of the late John and Louise Degan Kirst.
On Sept. 15, 1945 at St. Mary Magdaline Catholic Church in Buffalo, N.Y., he married the late Kathleen Hughes Kirst.
Mr. Kirst was educated in Buffalo-area schools and had worked at Bethlehem Steel, Pillsbury, Dunlap and then retired from Moog, Inc. after many years of service. He enjoyed ﬂying and watching airplanes, as well as model airplanes. He also enjoyed tinkering in the garage, gardening and the family dogs.
Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters.
He is survived by two sons, Dennis Kirst and his wife Jean of St. Marys, and Michael Kirst of West Seneca, N.Y.; a daughter, Sarah, Mrs. Michael Weber of Spencerport, N.Y.; and three grandchildren, Kali Ann, Kristen and Katharine Kirst.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Kirst; and a sister, Evelyn Loftus.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Donald E. Kirst will be celebrated at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Church Street, St. Marys, on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at 12 p.m., with the Rev. Meinrad Lawson, O.S.B., as celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 N. Michael St., St. Marys, on Saturday from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
