Marigold S. Nelson, 68, of 102 Center St., Ridgway, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 10, 1945, in Concord, New Hampshire, the daughter of Harry and Shirley Woodworth Brown.
On July 1, 1967, she married John Nelson, he survives.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church and she enjoyed all types of crafts. Mrs. Nelson was Director/Owner of Nelson Behavioral Center, Inc., in Ridgway since Janaury 1986; court appointed Elk County Highway Safety Program Coordinator since 1987; certified Alcohol Highway Safety Program Instructor in Pennsylvania since May 1986; and certified Addiction Counselor Diplomate in Pennsylvania since November 1988. She earned her Doctorate of Philosophy from Columbia State University in Louisiana in April 1998; a Doctorate of Addiction Therapy from International Graduate Institute in December 2004 and a Doctorate of Child and Family Therapy from International Graduate Institute in December 2004. She graduated Cum Laude from U.P.B and from LaSalle University Masters Degree program. Her memberships included the DUI Association, Business and Professional Women, National Federation of Independent Businesses, Ridgway and St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce, and The American Mental Health Counselors Association.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Dwayne Nelson of Ridgway; a granddaughter, Breanna Nelson of Brookville; a brother, Leslie Brown (Laura) of Troy, Vt.; and by two sisters, Marjorie Baker of Ridgway and Merry Lee Ford, (John) of Kane.
She was predeceased by her parents; a son, Joel Nelson; and by two brothers, Lane and Larry Brown.
Funeral and committal services for Mary Nelson will be held at the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home, Ridgway, on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 9 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Erik Hart, Pastor of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Oakmont Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Memorial donations made be made to the American Cancer Society.
