RIDGWAY - The St. Marys Area cross country teams qualified three runners for this weekend’s PIAA meet in Hershey.
Adair Gennocro, Gideon Woelfel and Justin Huey will be representing St. Marys Area on Saturday.
Gennocro set a new District 9 course record on Saturday, winning the girls’ Class AA crown with a time of 18:51. The old record of 19:03 was set in 2008 by Dani Kocjancic of Kane.
Woelfel led the Dutchmen to a second-place team finish as he won the Class AAA boys’ race with a time of 17:13.63. A.J. Meterko of Punxsutawney was second in 17:27.53. Justin Huey placed third with a time of 17:44.42.
The top team, along with the next five finishers, qualify for the state meet.
Bradford won the team title with 39 points. The Dutch were second with 45, followed by Punxsutawney with 61, DuBois Area 82 and Clearfield 117.
The Lady Dutch placed seventh in the girls’ AA race with 153 points.
“It’s always a good day when you have two runners win District championships,” said St. Marys coach Stan Foster.
“Adair set a course record in winning the girls’ AA title. Gideon followed up by winning the boys’ AAA title,” said Foster.
“It is nice to be sending three runners to the state championships,” he added.
After Gennocro for the Lady Dutch in the AA race was Kaley Williams in 18th place in 21:59.34. Sloan Foster finished in 26th place in 22:19.07. Michaela Rupprecht placed 73rd in 27:00.9, while Cassie Wonderling and Rachel Schreiber were 77th and 78th in 27:37.82 and 28:20.51, respectively.
Behind Woelfel and Huey for the Dutchmen were Alec Foster and Konstantin Deyev in 11th and 12th place with times of 18:512.01 and 19:02.60, respectively. Dylan Shields placed 18th in 19:24.00. Nathan McFadden finished in 22nd place with a time of 19:50.62. Jonathan Prechtl took 33rd with a time of 21:40.44.
In the girls’ AAA race, the Bradford girls won the team title with 30 points and a total time of 1:46.17.63. The Punxsutawney girls also finished with 30 points, but their total time was 1:46.18.85. Clearfield was third with 72 points.
Milea Schall of Punxsy won the individual title with a time of 19:54.10. Her teammate Alexis Young was second in 20:33.83. Meg Newburg of Bradford was third in 20:48.5, with Shannon Byerly of Punxsy in fourth in 20:50.9 and Catherine Sheffo of DuBois Area in fifth with a time of 21:06.53.
Juliann Boddorf of Punxsy was the fifth qualifier for states, placing ninth.
The PIAA meets are scheduled for this Saturday at the Parkview Cross Country Course in Hershey.
