Thousands of Penn State alumni, fans and students gathered inside the Bryce Jordan Center Thursday afternoon to honor the accolades and accomplishments of former Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno. Many people placed items in tribute to Paterno near his statue outside of Beaver Stadium.

On Jan. 1, Elk Regional Health Center welcomed the first baby born in its Family Unit in 2012.
Rebecca Jean Coffman is the daughter of Antoinette Nichols and Jamie Coffman of Emporium. Dr. Steven Koch delivered Rebecca at 5:37 p.m. on New Year’s Day. She weighed eight pounds, one ounce, and was 22 inches long.
Rebecca was welcomed home by her sister, Sabreia, 7, and brothers Isaac, 5, and Ivon, 4.
The family received a savings bond and a teddy bear from the Elk Regional Health System Auxiliary, two cases of diapers and a case of baby wipes from Elk Regional Health Center, and gifts from the employees of The Family Unit and the staff at Dr. Koch’s office.

A single tree with a light dressing of snow shimmers in the sunlight at a local cemetery, looking almost as if the bare branches have been brought back to life and are filled with frosty blossoms.
St. Marys resident Norbert A. Arnold, pictured with City Manager David Greene and Mayor Sally Geyer, was honored with a plaque for co-founding and serving on the city's Parking Authority at Monday's council meeting.
"Norb" has served the city's residents for many years.
A wooden reindeer decoration adorns the lawn of a house at 392 Fairview Rd. in Kersey. The decoration stands nearly as tall as the house it sits in front of and is lit by floodlamps in the ground below.
