SMA gymnasts win two state individual championships

Dutch squad takes second in state bronze division

The St. Marys Area gymnastics squad brought home a silver plaque in the PA Classic Team Championship, with two members of the squad winning gold medals. The team brought home a total of 13 medals.
Bringing home individual championships were senior Michaela Sorg in the balance beam and sophomore Mackenzie Neureiter in the floor exercise.

St. Marys Area swimmers record wins over DuBois

ST. MARYS - If there is a recipe for ending a regular season on the highest note possible, the St. Marys Area swim and dive team certainly found it. Mix one pool record, one school record, 13 talented seniors, 18 top times then add in two winning season records and you have the kind of night that makes months of hard work well worth the effort.

Lady Crusaders defeat Kane for AML championship

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader basketball team captured the 2012 Allegheny Mountain League girls’ championship Saturday night by defeating the Kane Lady Wolves 38-25 at the St. Marys Area High School.
The Lady Crusaders were able to take the early 4-0 lead and led 10-6 at the end of the first quarter. They led 21-12 at the half and never trailed throughout the contest.
“Throughout the year we have been playing good defensive basketball,” said ECCHS coach Ken Pistner. “At this time of the year we are going in the right direction. We’re getting better.”

Lady Crusaders reach tonight’s AML final with 43-26 win

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders advanced to tonight’s Allegheny Mountain League championship game with a 43-26 victory over the Brockway Lady Rovers last night at the ECCHS gym.
Elk Catholic will meet the Kane Lady Wolves, who defeated the DuBois Central Lady Cardinals 53-47 last night at DuBois Central.
Last night at the ECCHS gym the Lady Crusaders opened a 12-4 lead after the first quarter, then scored the first eight points of the second period to take a 20-4 lead before Brockway could get on the board in the second eight minute stanza.
