Auditors set wage for Lilley

A special meeting of the Jay Township Auditors was held at 4 p.m. on Feb. 2 to set a wage for Murray Lilley, who was hired by the township in the position of maintenance/laboror after formerly serving as roadmaster. The Jay Township Auditors are Richard Gavazzi, Lynn Antonelli and Jane Caretti. The Jay Township Supervisors had voted to eliminate the roadmaster position at their reorganizational meeting in January and decided that the duties which were formerly the responsibility of the roadmaster will now be split between the three supervisors. The maintenance/laborer position entails equipment maintenance, snow plowing, laborer and equipment operator tasks and various work for the township's water company. The wage for the maintenance/laborer position was set by the auditors at $16.75 per hour, and it was noted in the minutes from the meeting that this wage gives Lilley a 25-cent raise. It was also indicated that he will be paid the same rate, regardless of what job he is performing, and will not have any special rates for specific jobs.
