Charity Pub Crawl grand finale Dec. 16

ST. MARYS - After 10 previous stops throughout the year and an enthusiastic following of more than 500 participants, the grand finale of the yearlong Straub Brewery Charity Pub Crawl is set for 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16 at The Hills Restaurant in St. Marys. The grand finale, expected to be the biggest stop yet, will mark the first time in Straub Brewery's 140-year history that the famed "Eternal Tap" will symbolically be taken on the road, where it will be creatively represented at The Hills."We wanted to do something really special for the Pub Crawl's last stop," said Bill Brock, Straub Brewery president and CEO. "We decided that this was the perfect opportunity to take the Eternal Tap to the people since so many, like us at the brewery, have a special affection for it. After all, the Eternal Tap really belongs to everyone who enjoys Straub Beer."The Grand Finale Stop was originally scheduled to take place at the Brewery's Eternal Tap, but due to the record-breaking number of pub crawlers, which has grown steadily from 300 at the first stop in February to more than 500 throughout the year, organizers felt the last event warranted an innovative new take that would be appropriate for the number of attendees."It became obvious that we needed to rethink our approach to the Grand Finale so that we could comfortably accommodate all of the pub crawlers," Brock said.In addition to being a larger venue for what Team Straub Co-Director John Schlimm said will be the "hottest party of the year," The Hills will also easily transition from "hometown pub" to "nightclub" when popular headlining band Back Alley takes the stage at 9 p.m. There will be no cover charge for the grand finale event, although donations will be accepted at the door for the crawl's four benefitting charities: The Elk County Humane Society, Elk County Relay for Life, Crystal Fire Department, and the Rotary Club of St. Marys.
