Elk Catholic golfers top St. Marys, Brockway

The Elk County Catholic Crusader golf team picked up a victory over St. Marys Area and Brockway Area in a match held on Wednesday afternoon at the St. Marys Country Club golf course. "This is the best we played all season," said ECCHS Coach John Vollmer following the match. "We had two of our players shoot their best scores of the season in the match as Brandon Schlimm carded a 38 and Jess Jaynes carded a 40. Once again Darren (Simons) was the medalist for the day with his 34. Elliott Struble also came in with a great round for us as he carded a 39."Elk Catholic's top five golfers came in with a total score of 197, while St. Marys Area was second with a 228, followed by Brockway with a 267. The five best scores of the eight golfers from each team were used to determine the winning team.Elk Catholic's Darren Simons was the medalist for the day as he finished with a one under par score of 34. He was followed by teammates Brandon Schlimm with a three over 38, Elliott Struble with a 39, and Jess Jaynes with a 40. The other ECCHS score used in the match was a 46 by Bruno Cavalline.Other ECCHS scores were: Bryan Haberberger 50, Kristy Hanes 53 and Garret Reuscher 55.St. Marys Area's Mike Brennen checked in with a 40, followed by teammates Rudy Gleixner with a 45, Jordan Weinzierl with a 46, Sam Miller with a 48 and Peter Timashenka with a 49.Other St. Marys Area scores were Justin Beimel 53, Bob Watts 53 and D.J. Challingsworth 59.Brockway was led by Alec Bouch 50, Cody Jose 53, Andy Bensen 54, Andy Genevro 55, Fabio Forturnato 55, Darren Olivio 57 and Devon Park 57.Both the St. Marys Area and Elk County Catholic golfers will be in action this afternoon as they take part in the Elk County Golf Tournament being held at the Bavarian Hills Golf Course. Also in the tournament will be Ridgway Area High and Johnsonburg Area High. The format for the tournament will be six hole scramble, six hole best ball and six hole alternating shots. Each school will have six golfers in the tournament.
