Eve Metelski

Our most loving and giving mother, Eve Metelski, 89, of Ridgway/Johnsonburg Road, died on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at the home of her daughters, surrounded by her cherished family. Eve was born on March 31, 1922, to Barney and Josephine Kolinoski Piurkoski in Johnsonburg. Eve married the love of her life, Dorik Metelski Sr., on May 11, 1946, and together they began their life journey that lasted for 49 wonderful years. Eve was genuine, kind-hearted, and loving. She was a devoted wife, a beloved mother and grandmother, and a friend to all. She had been employed at Stackpole Carbon Johnsonburg for several years. She served in the U.S. Army WAC and was a veteran of WWII. She was also employed at Old Time Bakery, Kinkead’s Bakery and St. Marys Bakery as a self-taught cake decorator. Eve received the Juliet Lowe Statue in appreciation for her many years of service in the Girls Scouts of America. For 54 years, she was a faithful member of the C.D. of A., holding numerous offices. She was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church and served as a volunteer for over 40 years, running The Good Samaritans. Eve was active in card club throughout her life, which resulted in many lifelong and dear friendships. She also enjoyed fishing and listening to Big Moose and the Polka Party. Eve was most at home in her kitchen where she cooked, baked, and entertained. Her black lab, Lady, was one of her most treasured possessions.Eve is survived by three daughters, Felcia Nelson, Barbara Metelski and Doreen (Doe) Cherry and her husband Skip of Ridgway; a son, Dorik (Skip) Metelski Jr., of Ridgway; a granddaughter, Vanessa Cherry; a brother, Philip Piurkoski and his wife Barbara of Penfield, N.Y.; a sister, Frances Olewinski of Wilcox, and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband; a brother, Leon Barney Piurkoski; two sisters, Helen Linder and Jeannine Piurkoski; and by a son-in-law, Richard NelsonA Mass of Christian Burial for Eve Metelski will be celebrated at St. Leo’s Catholic Church on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012 at 11 a.m. Concelebrating will be Fr. Brian Vossler, pastor of St. Leo’s Catholic Church, and Fr. Ross Miceli. Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Friends will be received at the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday evening at 7:45 pm. Military honors will be accorded by the Ridgway Military Honor Detail. Memorial donations may be made to St. Leo’s Catholic School, 111 Depot St., Ridgway; or to The Ridgway Ambulance Corp., North Broad St., Ridgway.
