Jacob recognized for service to Chamber

St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce outgoing president Mark Jacob was honored for his service to the organization during the Chamber's annual dinner held Saturday.Jennifer Dippold, a member of the Chamber's board of directors, acknowledged Jacob's efforts and presented him with a gift in gratitude for his service.Jacob has served as the board president for the past two years and was a board member for several years prior to his presidency. He plans to remain active in the organization as a board member rather than an officer."I have met many new friends while on the board and have relied on them, as well as others, to make my experience as president an enjoyable one," Jacob said. "A volunteer board such as this is extra-special because you work side by side at various events and you can't help but feel a special bond with the other members.Whether it is handing out sausage and eggs at the Santa breakfast, or setting up tables for the Wing Fling, or working a table at the Mini Expo, there is a special camaraderie that develops when you are working together on a project to see it to its conclusion."Jacob said one of the challenges during his term as president was acknowledging the various board members' ideas and philosophies and encouraging each of them to express their thoughts."This is a hard-working group with great ideas and who know how to have fun when the work is done," Jacob said. "We have had many great laughs together along the way, and I hope to continue the friendships I have started in this position."While Jacob said he would love to serve an additional term as president, he plans to pursue campaigning for the position of Magisterial District Judge, which will be vacated upon the retirement of current District Justice Donald Wilhelm at the end of the year. "The primary election is in May so I have a lot of ground to cover before then. I hope to concentrate on serving the community in that capacity if I am fortunate enough to have the electorate vote me into office," Jacob explained.
