Kearney provides superintendent comments

St. Marys Area School District Superintendent Ann Kearney provided several comments during portions of the recent school board workshop and meeting.On Wednesday, March 9, state auditors arrived in St. Marys. They will remain there during the duration of the lengthy two-month-long project. Kearney reminded parents, students, teachers and staff that March 25 is the final inservice day for the 2010-11 school year. This is a day off for students only, as district personnel have planned various professional development activities.Among the presentations are: an update of the online tool Success Maker by Tami Bertolasio, Cindy Murphy explaining foldables, an overview of the Common Core Standards, the administering of a new KRT (Kindergarten Readiness Test), a presentation on RTII (Response to Instructional Intervention) by Mary Beth Glover of IU9, grade level articulation meeting, Blended Schools training on Blackboard - an online approach, and Promethian Board Training by Tanya Dynda, an IU9 consultant.Kearney congratulated members of the SMAHS HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) club, who recently participated in the state competition held March 2-4 in Lancaster. Scott Barber brought home a first-place finish in the Pathophysiology knowledge test, while Brian Merritt captured first place in Sports Medicine.Additionally, Alyssa Fenton, Anna Prechtl and Samuel Guido worked as a group, taking home third place in Creative Problem Solving. Additional place winners included fourth-place finishers Kristen Anderson, Taylor Bellina, Kristi Wendel and Jolene Young, all in the HOSA Bowl. Trenton Schreiber finished in fifth place in Medical Spelling. The club is under the direction of advisors Jennifer Breindel and Jessica Krug. HOSA has atwofold mission, which is to promote career opportunities in the healthcare industry and to enhance the delivery of quality healthcare to all people.
