Lady Beavers tennis team hands Lady Dutch 7-2 setback

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch tennis team lost a 7-2 match to the DuBois Area Lady Beavers Monday afternoon in a match played at the SMAHS courts.At first singles, Amy Orr of the Lady Dutch lost 6-7 (6-8) and 6-7 (4-7) to Kristina Torretti.“This was a great match to watch, with two very good players battling out to see who would win,” said St. Marys coach Sue Lepovetsky.“Aubrey Wiesner played one of her finest matches of the season in winning 6-2, 6-4,” said Lepovetsky.Wiesner defeated Alisha Torretti at second singles.At third singles, Chelsea Agosti of the Lady Dutch again played a good matchm but came up short 6-7, (5-7), 1-6 against Natale Newcamp.At fourth singles, DuBois’ Kristen Adamson defeated Danielle McCoy 6-1, 6-1.At fifth singles, SMA’s Megan McCoy, playing in her first varsity singles match, lost 0-6, 0-6 to Alaina Anand.At first doubles, Aubrey Wiesner and Chelsea Agosti of the Lady Dutch lost a close match 8-6 to Kristina and Alisha Torretti.At second doubles, SMA’s Amy Orr and Danielle McCoy defeated Natale Newcamp and Andrea Poy 8-6.At third singles, DuBois’ Katie Rucinski and Rachel Smith defeated Megan McCoy and Emiley Challingsworth 8-6.At fourth doubles, Christina Harlan and Ashley Mertz of the Lady Dutch, playing in their first varsity match, lost 1-8 to Ellen Chittester and Megan Mulhollen.“The girls played much improved from their matches in both singles and doubles today. I am seeing with each performance more confidence with each match,” said Lepovetsky.The Lady Dutch, now 1-3 on the season, return to action Thursday when they travel to Brockway for a 3:30 p.m. match.
