Lady Crusaders roll over Johnsonburg Ramettes 51-22

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders picked up their 10th victory of the season on Friday night, rolling over the Johnsonburg Ramettes by a 51-22 score in an AML North game played at the Aaron J. Straub Gymnasium on the Elk Catholic campus.The Lady Crusaders jumped out to a 12-0 lead, only to have the Ramettes cut it to three by the end of the first quarter. The second quarter found the Lady Crusaders shutting out the Ramettes; then in the second half, it was all Elk County, as they outscored the Ramettes 33-13."We had a good defensive effort tonight and did a very good job on the boards," said Coach Ken Pistner of the Lady Crusaders. "We kept pressure on the ball and used our quickness to cause numerous turnovers."We were very patient on offensive tonight as we were able work the ball around, which resulted in some easy buckets. We had a pretty balanced scoring attack, as nine girls hit the scoring column. We are showing improvement with each game. This was our second win in a four-game stretch in six days."Ellie Petrosky and Karly Carnovale led the Lady Crusaders in scoring with 10 points each. Ellie's came on five field goals, while Karly's came on one field goal, two treys and a two-for-two night at the line. Abbi Petrosky and Kristie Hanes each chipped in with seven points, Maggie Sorg, Lexie Meholic and Taylor DaCanal had four points each, Helen Danz had three points and Emily Gregory two points.Ellie Petrosky pulled down 10 rebounds and Sorg four to lead Elk, while Lexie Meholic had four steals to pace the Lady Crusaders.Kiana Myers and Rhianon Fowler each had five points to pace the Ramettes, while Justis Myers and Brittany Watts had four each. Kathryn Polaski and Taylor Harvey each added two points to the Ramettes' cause.Elk Catholic opened the game by scoring the first 12 points, six by E. Petrosky and two each by Gregory, Meholic and A. Petrosky. Johnsonburg came back to score the next seven points, two each by J. Myers and Fowler and a trey by K. Myers, to make it 12-7. E. Petrosky scored for Elk, with J. Myers scoring at the end of the period for Johnsonburg to make the score 14-9.The second quarter was a defensive struggle all the way, as neither team was able to score a field goal. The first points in the period were recorded by Elk Catholic's DaCanal when she made two foul shots at the 1:12 second mark of the period. Carnovale followed with two more foul goals shortly after DaCanal's to end the scoring in the period as the Lady Crusaders took a 18-9 halftime lead.Watts scored to open the second half for the Ramettes, but A. Petroski hit two field goals and Carnovale a trey to push the ECC lead to 25-11. A bucket by Harvey was followed by a foul goal by A. Petrosky, a field goal by Meholic and a trey by Carnovale, making it 31-13. K. Myers scored for the Ramettes, then Carnovale, Hanes and Sorg all hit field goals and Danz a trey at the buzzer to give Elk County a 40-15 lead to take into the final period.Hanes opened the final period with a trey and E. Petrosky added a field goal to make it 45-15. Fowler hit a trey for Johnsonburg and Polaski added a field goal to cut the lead to 45-20. DaCanal scored for the Lady Crusaders, then Watts scored for Johnsonburg, 47-22. Hanes and Sorg scored the final four points of the game for the Lady Crusaders as the ECCHS girls won the game 51-22.Game notesElk Catholic is now 10-4 on the season and 4-1 in the AML North Division. Both teams scored four second-quarter points, as Elk took a seven-point, 13-6 lead into the locker room at the half.The Ramettes came on strong in the third period as they outscored the Lady Crusaders 12-4 to take an 18-17 lead after three full periods.
