Lady Dutch volleyball downs Kane 3-0

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch volleyball team opened their home season on Tuesday by sweeping the Kane Lady Wolves by a 3-0 score at the SMAHS “Dutch Oven”.St. Marys won the first game 25-19, took the second game 25-21 and won the third game 25-20.“I thought we played with intensity tonight,” said St. Marys coach Erica Vogt.“We served the ball decently but I would like to see some harder hits,” said the coach. “I thought we covered well tonight. We gave the game ball to Chelsea Gregori who finished the night with 34 digs,” said Vogt.“We’re looking forward to Thursday night and to Saturday,” added coach Vogt.Chelsie Gaton and Sami Hanes led the St. Marys squad in kills with five each.The first game went back and forth early as the game was tied at 3-all. With Kristen Anderson serving, St. Marys went up 6-3. The teams traded sideouts with the Lady Dutch taking an 8-4 lead on an ace by Sami Hanes. St. Marys went up 13-8 before Kane was able to close the gap to 13-12. The Lady Dutch would come back to take a 20-15 lead. With St. Marys up 24-19, Lauren Dalessandro served an ace giving St. Marys the 25-19 victory.Game two saw Kane open a 7-5 lead. St. Marys came back to tie the game at 7-0ll and take the lead on Hanes’ serves, 9-7. With Taylor Bellina serving, the Lady Dutch opened a 14-9 lead. When St. Marys got the serve back, Gaton served up two aces, 17-10. Kane would battle back to cut the Lady Dutch lead to 21-17. The teams traded sideouts with St. Marys up 23-19. Kane made it 23-21 before St. Marys got the sideout at 24-21. With Bellina serving St. Marys won the second game 25-21.The third game saw St. Marys move out to a 13-6 lead. An ace by Gaton made it 14-6. Kane came back to cut the lead to 16-12. With Delassandro serving, Abbey Cribbs got a kill, 17-12. The teams traded sideouts with the Lady Dutch up 21-17. With Sami Hanes serving, Kiana Hoohuli scored a point, 22-17. Kane made it 22-19 before being called under the net, 23-19. A kill by Gaton made it 24-19. Kane made it 24-20 before Gaton scored the final point of the match giving St. Marys the 25-20 victory.The St. Marys junior varsity squad won in two games.St. Marys returns to action Thursday when they travel to Elk County Catholic. Junior varsity action begins at 6 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
